The only item on today’s program for the Capitulars was to participate in the 10:30 a.m. Mass in the Upper Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi.
The presider was the newly elected Minister General, Friar Carlos TROVARELLI. Many faithful attended. The homily was delivered in two parts. In the first part, Friar Jude WINKLER invited everyone to pray for the newly elected Minister General as well as for those who will be serving the Order as his collaborators. He next offered some commentary on the second reading from the Book of Revelation, which describes a New Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God. We are to understand this reality in the sense of our experiencing the joy of paradise, where we will be in communion with God and our brothers. We can also understand it in the sense of our personal commitment, today, to build fraternity here on earth.
In the second part, Friar Carlos spoke and thanked everybody, in particular, the Mayor of Assisi, Mrs. Stefania PROIETTI. He invited everyone to believe firmly that Christ is present in our midst. He then asked all the confreres to make themselves available to collaborate with him and to be obedient to the will of the Eternal Father.
After the Mass, a group photo was taken of all the Capitulars standing in the Sixtus IV courtyard. Afterwards, the Capitulars sat down to lunch provided by Friar Mauro GAMBETTI, the Guardian of the Sacred Convent.
